Pacemaker being implanted

Hi, new here and sitting in the hospital. They want to put a pacemaker in me due to my pulse sitting around 37-45.
My pulse has always been on the low side when i was younger
but im 62 now, and i figure it!s about time to start having health problems. The only problem is, that i am on a opiate substitute to stay off. a prescription drug problem that i had. That means i would have to stop taking them and i would go into withdrawals.

I wanted to leave the hospital amd finish the drug program that i am on, but i don't know if tjat is a good idea. Any suggestions would be appreciated,
thanks,
martinbr

Carry on with your opiate substitute. This will not make any difference to the pacemaker surgery. You should make sure the treating doctor is aware of your problem.

It is not a good idea to have a withdrawal, especially with a cardiac arrhythmia.

Best to get the heart sorted out sooner rather than later if a pacemaker is being advised, as the arrhythmia could be life threatening.

My advice is get the heart sorted out first, do the drug programme once you are well and don't have the additional worry of ill health. In that way you are more likely to be successful. The best way of coming off opiates is gradually, at YOUR own pace, if you are to maintain success, as in that way any problems you experience can be sorted out along the way.
