My pulse was originally set at 60 it suddenly reduced to 50, albeit
constant so I had a check up last week. The technician said the
pacemaker was working OK and when I questioned her about
the pulse rate dropping she suggested i need to do more excercise because my heart might be getting lazy. I am feeling tired most of the time (I am 92 but quite mobile) so do you think I
should get another opinion?

Your PM won't let your heart rate go below what ever your PM lower rate setting is programmed at.

So when you say that your "pulse was originally set at 60" that sounds like you think your PM lower rate was programmed to 60.

Then you say "it suddenly reduced to 50". Unless your PM was reprogrammed to set the lower rate to 50 that won't happen.

I'm only guessing here but if your HR did go down to 50 I suspect your PM lower rate is set to 50. The tech's response seems to support this too. Your natural sinus node was keeping your HR at 60 or above and for what ever reason, tech said heart may be getting lazy, your sinus node lower rate went to 50 or below. If that's the case then your PM will take over and keep your HR from going below 50.

So I'd ask what your PM lower rate setting is programmed to. I suspect 50. If that's the case then you may want to get your lower rate raised to 60 since that's where your previous natural low rate was.

Hope this helps
Kathy
