Moving PM

I'm new to this PM thing (2 weeks) and yesterday we noticed my pm appeared to be slipping out of position. Kinda painful, too. Should I be concerned? BTW, I have a St. Jude PM 2110 dual lead.

Yes, you should be concerned if it's slipping out of its pocket. Call your doc's office and ask the nurse. Was it implanted under the skin or the muscle? Mine is under the skin but the doctor still put a couple stitches on the inside to hold it in place.

It never hurts to ask!

Yes, Pacemakers Can Move

Hi,

I had my pacer implanted on November 2nd of 2004 and slowly it moved into my armpit. Five months after initial implant I had to have it moved back into place. What had happened was: the original doctor did NOT stitch it down and it migrated like I said into my armpit. So, yes, they can move if it wasn't stitched into place. Not all do this, but it is more common than one would think.

Yes, they do make the "pocket" a bit bigger than the actual device, but keep an eye on it as it may move.

Take care,
Pookie

Thanks

Took your advice...the nurse tells me the pm is where it should be. Seems like the pocket the pm is in is larger than the pm, which allows for some movement. (I am thin, so there isn't much muscle to work with.) At any rate, all is as it should be...thanks for your concern and response.
