My father is going to get a pacemaker/difibulator in July. He is in another state and I am trying to stay up on his health. Last night when I talked to my brother he said they would be doing dad's surgery in 2 stages, so it will take 2 days. Do any of you know why that might be.

Now that makes more sense! Two very different procedures. Is he in afib or having a fast heart rate? When that happens they can go in through the groin and zap the area causing the problem. It can be a better choice than medications which have side effects, or when medication doesn't work.

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
no idea

I can't think of any reason why it would take two stages to do it! They normally keep us overnight but it's one very short procedure. Is he confusing the diagnosis, maybe it's stage 2 heart block or something like that?
