post op first interrigation

Hey guys today I had my 3 week post op check and first interrigation. It all went very well...but of course now I have alot of questions. I am currently paced 91% of the time, what do they mean by this?

Some basics

You say that you’re pacing 91%, but is this atrial or ventricle? Here’s a few basic definitions for you. I have a Medronics Advisa. There's a lot more info on your report so if you have specific questions, just ask.

AS, VS: Atrial Sensing, Ventricle Sensing, in percentage
AP, VP: Atrial Pacing, Ventricle Pacing, in percentage

Mode: This is a generic decoding of the Modes:

1st letter: Chamber(s) paced: 0 = none, A = Atrium, V = Ventricle, D = Dual (A + V)

2nd Letter: Chamber(s) sensed: 0 = None, A = Atrium, V = Ventricle, D = Dual (A + V)

3rd Letter: Response to sensing: 0 = None, T = Triggered, I = Inhibited, D = Dual (T+I)

4th Letter: Rate Modulation: 0 = None, R = Rate Response (RR)

For example, my mode is DDD, so I’m dual paced, dual sensed, dual response to sensing, RR Is Off.

Rate-response On is needed when your heart cannot adjust its rate to meet the needs of your body. When your heart cannot adjust its rate, a rate-responsive pacemaker uses one or more special sensors. These sensors monitor changes in your body. The pacemaker uses this information to increase or decrease your heart rate.

Lower Rate: Pacing occurs if your heart rate drops below this lower limit

Upper Track Rate: places a limit on the fastest ventricular pacing rate during atrial tracking. Further increases in the atrial rate may eventually reach the 2:1 block rate where the pacing ratio becomes 2:1.

Hope this helps

Congrats on the results. The 91% is measuring how often the PM is used to pace your heart. (Mine is at 100% for now.) that may get lower or higher as time goes on. The main thing is that you are feeling better.

Have fun,
Tony

I am a few weeks ahead of you

I have seen my cardio twice. The first time at 4 weeks he turned on rate response because I was having difficulty exercising. The second time at the normal 6 week appointment he made some adjustments to the RR feature but also did an interrogation which showed what the PM was doing in the past 2 weeks, but the report also showed the data from the prior period (before RR was turned on). Before RR was turned on the PM was pacing 98% of the time. Afterwards, it was 67%. Now I do not know if that was due to RR, due to the PM learning, my body getting used to the device, or something else but it seems to me there is a period of time where things just need to "settle in". We shall see.

Rate Response

Have you all felt better during extersize using the rate response vs having it turned off?

You know you're wired when...

You have a 25 year mortgage on your device.

My cardiologist is brilliant and after lots of trial and error got me running. I finished this years London Marathon in 3hrs 38 minutes.
