How long?

I was told not to do any lifting above about 5 k or 10 lbs also not to lift my left arm above shoulder level. Does anyone know how long this should be kept to or do I have a good excuse? :-)

Lifting

Everyone is different and you should listen to your doctor or go for a consultation. But I am surprised at that advice unless your pm was recently installed. Mine is 2+ years old, I am 82, and I bench press over 100 pounds. But overhead presses are harder and I do much lower weights there -- about 30 pounds per arm.

they say 6 weeks, unless your Dr has a reason that they don't want you to ever do it.

You do want to move your arm to prevent getting frozen shoulder.

I'm surprised that you didn't get instructions, maybe someone forgot? You may want to call them.

4-6 weeks

Most docs say 6 weeks, some as little as 4, others as long as 2 or even 3 months. As KAG said, be sure to move the arm normally otherwise so your shouldn't doesn't freeze. After that, anything goes. Sorry, no excuse not to exercise :oP

I had my pacemaker put in 8 weeks ago today. For the first week I was given strict instructions not to lift my left arm at all. About a week later at my first follow-up appointment I was told to use full range of motion with that arm. But... no lifting, no pulling, no pushing, no jerking motions. I had to be careful while I was healing. It made sense to me. It is my nature to be independent and a get-things-done kind of girl. This time I realize that I cannot do this my way. It is not something I can push through. I MUST give my body time to heal. I was found unconscious hanging out of my car having had my head bashed in when I hit the concrete in my driveway. Paramedics rushed me to the nearest ER, where I experienced torsades de points and coded. I had a 3 degree block. I am now the proud wearer of my Boston Scientific pacemaker, which operates at 99% and keeps me alive. I am so very grateful.

I wish you the very best with yours. We are the fortunate ones.

I am almost 76 and the pm was put in 5 weeks ago. Everything seems to be doing fine so far.

You know you're wired when...

You need to be re-booted each morning.
