Unbelievably LONG day!

Surgery Update • • • Really REALLY Long Day! :/ My son, Joseph, brought me to OMC bright and early at 7:30 am. My procedure was scheduled to begin at 9:00 but I believe it was more like 10:00. Not sure because I fell asleep waiting :) Anyway as I was coming out of the anesthesia every single breath in or out caused me immense pain (I vauguely remember moaning with each breath). Well I heard them say they were going to give me verced and the next thing I remember is waking up a while later and still in pain. It seems that they had put me back under so they could take some x-rays and do an EKG or Echo. I'm not sure which because, like I said, I was out. Long story short (sorry not short at all ;) )the pacemaker was in the proper place and was running as it should. My little sister, Milana, had come over from Seattle and she brought me home.
I did great all day except for a little soreness and I followed the Dr's orders no lifting and no raising my right arm at all. I sliced two Zucchini in half and threw them face down on a cookie into the oven to make some Baba Ghanouj. Well about that time my daughter-in-law, baby granddaughter, and my daughter's lifelong best friend (my other daughter) showed so they finished making it. :) Then my sister arrived and we ordered take-out.
NOW fast forward several hours. around 9:00pm I was in so much pain with every breath... that after not being able to reach the Dr, I called the hospital for an alternate # and I ended up talking to ER and I told them I didn't want to go to ER so they suggested calling the EMT's to have them evaluate the situation. Kudos to the EMTs! They were here in less than 5 minutes. My pacemaker is working fine and my heart sounds strong, so they suggested going to the ER for a different Pain med Lana took me down and nearly 5 hours later, another x-ray and more labs and they Finally gave me some different meds and told me to call the Dr in the morning.

Well ~ Looking for that Silver lining . . . the pacemaker is doing it's job and my heart is strong now, if I could only breathe pain-free but hey - Baby steps :)

Regards, Dami

Change ER Thinking

Recommend you reprogram your feelings about going to ER now that you've had this procedure. You're in a different category now, and even though it stinks to sit through hours in that place, it could save your life. Know the parameters of when to go - and don't put it off if the pain continues.

One extra ER visit is far better than one where you should have gone but didn't. ;)

You know you're wired when...

You take technology to heart.
