30yo 4 days after first PM implant

Hi, I'm 30yo fit female. I got my PM implant on Thursday, home on Friday. Aside from the general anxiety and frustration in the Hospital, everything went well with the Surgery. Since I've been at home I've gone for a few short easy walks around the block with my heartrate monitor on (out of curiosity). Occasionally, the PM kicks in but it paces me at 130bpm which is crazy for me because I am young and fit - on these occasions I get a strange feeling in my throat and feel a little woozy. Apparently the PM will take about a week for the CLS (rate response) to 'optimize' so I'll give it a few more days and if it is still doing that I'll go see the techs. Any body else experience this kind of thing?

Hello there!
I also implanted mine few days ago. (7 days) I am 35 years. The first days I felt something strange on my heart but now I think is very regulart...thank god! But I am also feeling anxiety and I have difficult to sleep bc of the position. Why did u implant? My reason was a VT.
Wish you all health in the world!

Keep moving!

Hi!

Keep moving, and try to do not only short walks, but walks for 30-60 minutes, if you feel up to that already. My CLS was causing tachycardia whenever I moved a bit the first couple of days (I'm 100% paced, atria and ventricles). I reached the upper programmed rate when I just walked from living room to the bathroom, or even when I tied my shoelaces. As soon as I started going for long walks every day, it adjusted. From day to day my heart rates got better (slower).

I started running again a month ago, but only interval training. Yesterday I managed to run 30 minutes straight, almost 5 kilometres. Unfortunately, the adjustment I had when walking, did - so far - not happen while running. So, I'm running with the max CLS rate of 160 at the moment. Need to see a tech soon, I guess I'll have the sensor threshold changed from medium to high.

Best wishes

Inga

Adjustment

It depends on what type and brand of PM you have. My last one was pacing 98% of the time after implant but I'm only a 33% usually. All my settings were messed up and it took about 5 visits and a treadmill test to get it perfect.

adjusted :)

After a week of feeling nauseous and tired I decided to go back to the techs. They adjusted the settings and now i'm feeling a lot better. As this is my first pacemaker and it isn't for a common issue they said it would probably take a few adjustments.

thanks

I just got my pm 2 days ago.. this forum has answered some questions.. I have a hard time laying on my side, it's painful between my shoulder blades.. and the feeling of something in my throat..and boy can I feel it pace.. I also have some light headedness .. my hr was between 36-40 before, I believe they set my hr at 70 on my pm.. does this sound like normal feeling right after surgery?

hang in there

Hi TuckerMolly,
The worst part of my whole PM implant was dealing with the doctors and nurses in the hospital. No one told me anything, they handed me an info pamphlet which was vague to say the least. I had to speak to four different people to find out what was going on and even then I learnt more from google than I learnt from the Hospital!
Having said that, the technicians were great and the implant itself has gone very well, aside from the settings being uncomfortable in the first week. Since they adjusted it, I have had no problems. Good luck to you and your husband!

no info

I have to agree about not getting enough info.. I had no clue what to expect.. I loved all the hospital staff and the doctors.. but the pamphlets don't say much about what kind of aches, pains or feelings I might have.. honestly I am 4 days in an don't have much pain and I feel pretty good..

Thanks

Writing this for my husband who got his yesterday and was sent home today. Having same symptoms. We called the "on call" physician because I was ready to take him to the ER. They said it should improve over time - but if it got worse to come in. Hope that helps. He doesn't think they prepared him for what to expect.

I am only 44 and had my pacemaker installed 10 days ago.. yes I had that strange lump feeling in my throat.. It's gone now I think it was just swelling from surgery.. I also got the high bpm with some wooziness..again it's gone now.. I'm feeling almost back to normal but with more energy..
