travaling by high-speed train

Hello to you all, since a long time I have not visited the website...

I am planning to travel in France using the high-speed train (TGV system). Can someone tell me if there are any contraindications and/or limitations by having a pacemaker? Any advices?

Thanks!
All the best

French Bullet Train

Try my response to the Japanese Bullet Train pasted below.

There is little difference between the two trains - one speaks French, the other Japanese. They are both Electric, w/ the power being brought in from overhead wires. On the TGV. all power is picked up by the power cars - front & rear of the train, so there is no high voltage lines running anywhere in the passenger cars.

No reason at all for you not to ride it.

If you want to read a decent discussion go to this link:

I found some discussion on this forum from 2011...I'm going to Japan next week, and our son wants to buy us a bullet train pass from Nagoya to Tokyo and back, but thinks it may affect my pacemaker....anyone been there, done that, recently?? I can't find anything concrete on the internet....

Thanks...

Used the TGV last summer

And it was great - terrific service, the staff spoke English too. Paris to outside Tours. I'm paced 100% of the time - I certainly never gave it a thought. Nor when I was on the Eurostar, London-Paris. Or the Thalys Paris - Amsterdam.
Or the Acela, NY - Washington DC.

High speed trains - love them.

.........................welcome to PM Club...how I envy you. Lisbon is a fantastic City for anyone not aquainted with Lisbon, just check out the Bullring and the unique architecture...

So..

When it comes to Mega Train experiences the main risk might be The Food..

In Japan the best may be Sushi....worth a try.

In France..such a wonderful place ( Mum was French )...under NO circumstances be lured into the culinary trap of ordering 'Andouilette'...The French see this as one of the nations major contributions to Global Cuisine..

They are wrong...

Andouilette is a lasting vestige of Napoleons' hatred of anyone ,...especially The British ..( or " Les Rosbifs" as we are called )

Someone..maybe Byron , said .."See Venice and die.."...I am sure that if Byron ( or whoever) had known France..the quotation would have been...

" Eat Andouilette and wish that you had died"..

' Espece d'andouille 'is a French saying for..." A bit of an idiot'....a little like the Hispanic ..' Es uno chorizo'

Moral of the story is..Only eat sausage in the UK...The Land of Safe Sausages

Glad to be of help..

Happy travelling ..you will be just fine..

Hi Donr,

Thank you for your quick response, by the way good sense of humor ... (one speaks French, the other Japanese...)

Before I posted, I had already searched the Wikipedia site you say, it gives a very complete info about the trains, but without direct reference to the pacemaker, of course. Despite suspecting that there would be no problems of interference with the electrified TGV system I wanted to be sure.

I just read the posts / testimonials from 2011 you mentioned, nice research....from you.

And of course, I hope to enjoy my journey as much as you did last summer, Sara TB!

Hi Tatoo man,

thanks for your info, I searched for more info, which indeed confirms that there are no contraindications by using the trains, I will take care of myself.

And of course you helped! I'm so glad you like Lisbon.... is my city, so ....

By reading your answer I had to laugh about your advice on the French food ->" Eat Andouilette and wish that you had died"..

I want to try tasty things of course, but from the info on the wiki, I will never... try this special and famous "Andouilette"...., and in last case I'll go for the famous and delicious French croissants ...

All the best o you, the rest of the PM members and team,

Maguila

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
