Infection

2 months ago I had a single lead pacemaker implanted, today I went into the hospital for the A/V node ablation, I explained that over the last few days the pacer site was turning red and was starting to hurt, they put off the ablation and are doing a blood culture to see what's going on. Any insight on what could possibly happen now? I was told it possibly might need to be removed and re implanted.

my father's experience

my father developed an infection at his ICD implant site 4 months after surgery. He had to have his ICD and leads explanted - then was on antibiotics for a month and a half and then had a CRTD implanted in the same side as the previous ICD but at a different location. This time it was placed under the muscle.

It does sound daunting and is very unfortunate, but we did get to the other side of it and so will you.

Wishing you luck and good health.

Glad to hear they are right on top of it! It's great that they're doing a culture so they can treat aggressively with the correct medication. Sometimes this will get rid of the infection. If it does not, then yes, they sometimes have to remove the pm. Hopefully it will not come to that, fingers crossed for you.

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didn’t slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.
