Hi all,
My mother is 59 years old and was advised to get a Pacemaker as her heart rate was up and down (to mid 30's).
Last Friday she got her Pacemaker inserted. The procedure took about 1.5 hours as she was the last one in. The surgery went extremely well with no complications whatsoever. There is no lump or anything apart from a small incision on the left of her chest. Seems to have been put in place quite well
The surgery was done via local anesthetic. When she got out of the surgery she had a bit of an upset stomach and some difficulty breathing, but nothing too major.
The same night they took an X-Ray to ensure there as no movement or anything wrong with the device. She left the hospital early the following morning and is now at home. There was a little bit of pain in the wound area, but painkillers are quite effective and not troubling her too much.
Today is the 4th day, the pain has reduced by quite a bit, and everything is returning to normal gradually. There's some itchiness around the wound.
Just thought I'd share the story for those awaiting their surgery to hopefully give some comfort.
Cheers!

That's the Way it SHOULD Go!

All the best to your very old mother (just kidding about being very old).
Sounds like it has been a great experience and she'll do fine. Some fine tuning may be necessary in the near future and she should tell her doctor about what she's feeling when she tries to exercise, do steps, etc.
So glad you let us know how it went and make sure to let you Mum know we're here for her!
Niecey
Thanks!

Hi all,
Yes, she actually just returned from the doctor, and they said the same thing - itchiness means the skin is healing up. I will advise about the heat idea :) Another week and they will remove the sticky tape looking thing on the wound and everything should then return to normal.
Hopefully this story helps others anxiously waiting for their own implants! I can imagine how it feels! Mum's surgery got postponed twice... the second time she had the drip on, and went into the surgery room... the surgeon then said to cancel it because she had a skin infection, so it finally went ahead last Friday as outlined above...
Band removed

The band is now removed, and she's much better now - no itching, etc. Breathing is getting better day by day, so hopefully it's smooth sailing from here on!

Nice to hear such a good report. Hope she walking, a nice walk is good for body and soul. Having a daughter to cheer you on makes every thing easier. Hope to hear more of her journey with her new best friend. Blessings Jean
