check after 1 week?

my cardiologist at home ask me to come in to get the de-fib device checked I had put in one week ago ,is this common ? the hospital that installed the device was out of state while we were on a 3 day trip .my question is since the device was checked a week ago before I left why is it necessary to have it checked again so soon? sounds like charging to check is the primary motivation here ?any and all comments will be appreciated

It's to make sure your leads haven't dislodged and to also assess the wound to make sure it's not infected. It's common practice.

Not to mention

If you have any strange sensations or questions you can discuss with the tech while they're checking your PM. Sometimes you can head off problems before they get started. It's common practice to check after one week. They did mine.

1 week check

My Dr. wanted me to get checked after one week so he could take off the steri-strips and make sure my incision was healing properly. He wanted to make sure I was doing ok and gave me the opportunity to ask any questions I had. He also filled out my release form to return to work and told me when I could start showering and driving again. He did not check my PM at that time but had me schedule an appointment for the following month. From what I have read this is pretty common. Good luck to you!

.....Were I your normal Cardio who will be taking care of you long term, I'd want to see what all the work done somewhere else not under my control or even influence looked like. Especially since it apparently came under emergency conditions & unexpectedly.

Which brings up another point: Why do you even have a Cardio? I'd further want to know some of the reasons I didn't know you were a candidate for an ICD. The only way I could learn that is by sitting down & talking to you.

Give the Devil his due. He may have YOUR best interest at heart. You'll know that by how thorough & probing he is w/ his questions. Short & prefunctory - all he wants is the money. If he sits down & relaxes & discusses in detail what happened - he cares.
