My elderly dad will be having a PM implanted very soon.
I am an only child so I am the one he depends on for everything. My mom is deceased.
He does have a caretaker that comes 8 hours a day 5 days a week.
He still lives alone, however I live across the driveway from him.
I know nothing about pacemaker surgery or the recovery time.
I am planning to be out of the country for 12 days starting the middle of March.
This will be about 6 weeks after the pacemaker has been in.
Will this be enough recovery time for me to leave him in charge of the caretaker or should I cancel my trip now. Advice please.

One week has passed and I must admit that each day I feel a little stronger.

Welcome to the club, lots of folks here with a wealth of information. If everything goes normally at six weeks he will be in pretty good shape. As you know when we get older things take longer, if he has a caretaker that he likes, and will speak for him in a tight spot he will be fine. You will have to trust him and the caretaker to be alright. Who will check on him at night? Who will he call at night if he has a problem?
