Curious!

Hi I was wondering has anyone experienced a rushing or a fluttering feeling after receiving pacemaker? It's been a week so curious as to is this a normal feeling to have. Thanks

noticing the pacemaker

I have had my pacemaker in for 7 weeks. They did a revision after 6 weeks to re-locate the lead. I do notice a slight internal "ping" sensation when the pacemaker is doing its thing. Mine is set for 50 beats per minute so when my heart is not at that level, the pacemaker sends a charge. I do feel that very slight charge being delivered if I am in a quiet area with no audio distractions. At first my pacemaker was being used 6% of the time. Now it is 30% of the time. I'm hopeful that it won't exceed 30% but I am curious as to what others are experiencing.

It's been 3.5 monthes

since I had my PM installed. The first few weeks I noticed every little twinge as I was super sensitive to having something new. I grilled my EP as to what they were seeing on the monitor and he assured me they weren't seeing anything and that the monitor would pick it up and alert him if there was an issue. They did pick up one instance of v-tach in the hospital the day the PM was installed so I know it works but while I think I feel it once in awhile he assures me the monitor didn't pick it up. I have more faith in the technology than I do what I'm feeling because I'm never really sure what I'm feeling. That, plus I know my EP is one of the best in the area so I do trust his judgement. My PM is set at 50bpm. I was at 30bpm before PM so mine is pacing 66% of the time.

You get all sorts

You get all sorts of feelings, flutters, bumps, thumping, etc. right after PM insertion. Unless you start feeling sick or faint they usually aren't anything to worry about. You may also experience some pain in areas you haven't had before. That's normal too.

I was getting a pain going up into my jaw and another in my back directly behind the PM. The pain in the jaw was from where the leads were inserted under the collar bone. Pain in back was sympathetic pain from the PM "pocket". Both went away as I started rehab.

I would also get coughing spells. My heart could no longer go willy-nilly off on its own. It had to march to the PM's pace. So I'd feel the PM kick in and start to cough. That's gone away too.

Hang in there. Life gets better!
