laryngitis

i lost my voice a week and a half ago and i was on zithromax and prednisone for seven days and now i have discomfort in my chest relieved by zantac. it is like gas i guess is best to describe it. lost 20 pounds by following a reduction diet but may have eaten to many tomatoes as we grew them and in ontario canada the tomatoes in summer are fantastic. anyway wonder if i am doing enough to get rid of it. trying to be silent and that is hard. hehe have a cold air humidifier in bedroom. do you think i should return to the dr. i saw an e.r. dr. as mine is away. thanks ahead of time for any suggestions. i really feel horrid. jessie also my b.p. is a bit elevated. i think it might be anxiety.

Hi Jessie!!!!!!!!!!

sorry to hear you've been sick.

zithromax and prednisone are a guarantee to rip your stomach to shreds...hence your doctor giving you Zantac. Been there, done that, won't ever take Prednisone ever in my life agan....ever, never, never.

how much Zantac are you taking? ask your pharmacist if you can go higher or ask if something like Gavescon will help. I hate to see anyone suffer. oh, tomatoes aren't good for the guts, so you might wanna lay off of them for awhile.

what I have learned during the past 5 yrs of taking lots of medications is that they will eventually rot your gut. I had to go on Probiotics and an enzyme to get my stomach back in order, which was a slow process.

when in doubt...always get yourself checked out. better safe than sorry.

I wish you a speedy recovery my friend.

Pookie

Hope you are feeling better

Antibiotics do terrible things to the guts. I find I always end up with stomach thrush which manifests itself as pain in the oesophagus and gut which really gets going at night. Just when I snuggle down comfortable.

I find I need something to balance my gut such as acidopholus and if it is too difficult to cure I get some thrush drops. That usually fixes it all. But, that is only me and my peculiar system. Off this weekend to hospital again with Brian. He goes for a procedure under a scan on Monday so will let you know how things go. Tons of love. Billie

laryngitis

by justme - 2009-09-18 12:09:51

Hi,
sorry you feel so icky. I get laryngitis a lot. Medicine usually doesn't do anything unless what is causing it is like post nasal drip, and then it still doesn't take care of the laryngitis. It can last for weeks. The humidifier is a good start. Drinking hot fluids can help 'un freeze' your vocal chords. If you need to talk or sing for some reason, like really need to, suck on an asprin (may be contraindicated with heart meds, so be careful about that one) it's gross, but for whatever reason it works. (I used to sing competitively and had to use that trick on a number of occasions)
Another thing that helps is when you are waking up in the morning start humming. I know it sounds silly, but it helps to warm up your vocal chords and relax them enough for talking throughout the day. also, whispering is BAD! It puts more strain on your vocal chords than talking. Sometimes, talking hurts, but if you can get through the initial morning frozenness it gets better quicker.
Just some ideas hope you feel better soon!
