Handy equipment

I recently purchased two items that have proven to be very useful as I return to exercise and general activities.

First I bought a MIO Alpha 1 strapless heart rate monitor. It is a bit pricey, but the strapless feature is worth it to me. Amazon has it for $149. originally listed for $199.

Second I bought an EvoShield ShooterShield shirt. This shirt has a pocket and protective shield that molds to the chest after being exposed to air. The shirt, with pad costs $59 at the EvoShield web site. It fits very nicely over the pacemaker site and offers great protection.

Strapless Monitor

Let us know how you like the strapless heart rate monitor after you've used it for awhile. I have been wanting one but have heard mixed reviews on them saying they were not as accurate as the ones with the strap and you had to flip through screens to get your heart rate which was hard to do while running/working out. I only want one for the heart rate function, I don't need all the other stuff.

I have one and used it

I bought the MIO Alpha 1 and used it for the last few months. It works well, but I must tell you that the rubber strap can hurt your wrist if you wear it for long time. I only use it when I run. Also, what I don't like about it is that you can't read it in the dark because the unit has no built-in light. Other than that, so far so good. There are third party apps for your smart phone that you can have them link to this MIO and you can see your heart rate on your phone.

BTW, thanks TJ319 for sharing the info. I will look into that EvoShield pad & shirt. I think Amazon costs more. Anyway, thanks. I wish you all well. Have a nice day.

Mio is working well

I have been checking the accuracy of the Mio monitor. It seems fine. The only issue I have had is that it seems to take a while to find the pulse and the first few seconds are wildly inaccurate. After a minute or two, it is fine. I was pleased with how quickly the USB charging system works.

Just Bought a Mio Alpha Watch

I just bought a Mio Alpha watch and hope to use it as a way to give me a warning for a pending VT event. More than a year ago they changed out my pacemaker for and ICD due to, as they said minimal risk of a bad arrhythmia. Well 8 months ago I went into ventricular tachycardia, passed out without warning and the ICD brought me back.

I've been on prednisone for Cardiac Sarcoidosis and heart function has greatly improved and again the doctors are saying minimal risk for VT. Because I passed out without any warning I was hoping the Mio Alpha watch with the target zone alarm with be able to detect something going wrong before I pass out. That way if I'm driving I might get a warning to be able to stop the car.

What do you think for those that have the watch?

Not likely to meet the need

That sounds way beyond the functionality of the monitor. I do not think you would hear the warning while in a car. The display is not backlit so you may not even be able to glance at it and see the number at night.
