Dislodged Lead

I had a dual PM installed on Friday to address a ventricular heart block, the post op check revealed that the ventricular lead was OK but the atrial lead was dislodged. I have a further op scheduled for tomorrow to adjust the atrial lead but as this lead was only installed as additional security I am considering if this operation is necessary as I am 91.Would appreciate your comments.

Thanks for the advice Tracey, will probably go ahead with the op.

fix it now

If it's out of place, it's a really easy procedure to go in and fix it now, much easier than what you've already been through. If you wait too long to fix it, it will grow into place and be more trouble to relocate should you end up needing it later, so I would do it now while it's easy. I have av block also, but still pace occasionally with my atrial lead, 2% of the time. It's not a lot, but for me it's the difference between always feeling good and usually feeling good.

Atrial Lead Sensing

I also had a atrial lead problem recently with my 5th pacemaker implant. Actually I knew immediately after getting this replacement as my low HR would not stay at the 60 setting but dropped much lower at rest. Having an interrogation at the time showed everything "fine". Months later it was found that my atrial lead was not sensing after another interrogation. As Tracey posted it's not a major operation to secure your lead. It's most important else your pacemaker can't properly control your heart.
