I've been doing some push ups nothing more than usual and now my chest just below the area feels bruised. Anyone else go through something like this. Oh and my PM was implanted in November

You know you're wired when...
You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
Back off

A lot of things factor into exercise. One day everything works OK, the next day you can do the same thing and injure yourself. Something as simple as getting a cold can affect your body and muscles. So I'd back off on the push ups. If you're sore your body is trying to tell you something.
Don't know if you have access to licensed medical therapy or not. Since you're with the Coast Guard, I'm sure you do. Start working with a licensed medical therapist. They've got hundreds of different exercises you can do that won't affect your PM. You'll be getting a more thorough workout without doing possible damage.
Reason I know this.... They busted a rib, cracked a rib, collapsed a lung while trying to bring me back. I had a previous shoulder separation which got injured during CPR and then they put the PM on the other shoulder. I was a mess.
Went to cardio rehab and physical rehab to get back in "normal" shape. They had all sorts of exercises for the shoulders that left me worn out but didn't damage the shoulders. So there are a lot of options out there.
Like Dizzy said, don't be an idiot.
