Happy New Year, everyone!!
I have a quick question. I have thread in the form of a knot that is at the end of my incision. My clothing irritates it. I was assured by the doctor that it will fall off at some point.
How long does it take for this to happen?
Thank you. :-)

Inside or out?

I was told to carefully snip the piece that was outside as close to the skin as I could, no pulling, dab with bacitracin.

Yesterday the nurse said that she needed to remove only the knots, the rest buried sutures will dissolve.
From that I think you will need for them to dig in and remove the knots. Ev

I had to cut my knot/suture off, it was dragging on the clothing. I didn't unravel.....

The doctor removed the suture for me. The area is still irritated, and I am hoping that will subside in time. Thank you all very much for your input. :-)

...how long is a piece of string?
Some dissolve faster than others. I've had a surgery where it took several months for a soluble suture to be completely dissolved by the body.
One was in my foot, where I had several very small pieces that did not dissolve slowly work their way to the surface, become irritated & finally break through, ejecting a small, pearlescent piece of suture that was very hard.
Second was following abdominal surgery, same sort of reaction.
Wife had a knot at surface that just did not dissolve. Finally after about two months of being irritating, I grabbed the tail of the knot & it came right out - intact, but disconnected.
No one knows precisely how long it will take. Just be patient & periodically tug at the end, gently. One day it will come off.
