AV node ablation

Shout out to anyone who can reasure me. I have serious and stubborn AF I've had 7 ablations in as many years 3 of them this year unfortunately every single one has failed . My last op in July should have been an AV node ablation but the only did a partial unfortunately that also didn't work so now I'm faced with a full AV node ablation and I'm really worried about how I will b after it. I currently work full time in retail and really love my job . I would be devastated if after all I've been through I couldn't carry on working.
If there is anyone on here who has had an AV node ablation please can u message me as to what life is like afterwards.
Thank you.
Vicki.

My Ablation Results

I went through 10+ years of Afib and and beta blockers up to Tikosyn. Had the AV Nobe ablated 3 years ago and upgrade to to a CRT-D. My life has been much, much better since then. Normally I don't even know when I'm in Afib unless it last several hours. My checkups indicate lots and lots of short episodes. Hope you have as good success as I have. My only recommendation would be make sure that the doctor who does the procedure is experienced and comes highly recommended.

PS. I'm an old guy, 77 years old, but still able to do yard work and other piddling around the house.

Your pacemaker

by Theknotguy - 2014-11-20 10:11:44

Greetings to you in the UK. I saw from your bio you have a Medtronic pacemaker. Same as me.

I have problems with afib. My sessions will go anywhere from four hours up to 24 hours at a time. They were trying to control my afib with medication but that didn't work.

Collapsed on the trail, woke up six days later from a coma and with a PM.

After three months I had APP (Atrial Preference Pacing) turned on with my Medtronic PM. While it wasn't an instantaneous change, the APP did reduce the number of afib sessions I've had.

Since you also have a Medtronic PM I'm thinking your EP went with that model because it does have the APP software program. That may help with your afib after your ablation.

Question is if your EP has already turned on APP? Do you have time for the software program to work before your ablation is scheduled?

Hope you can get some positive answers.

AV-NODE

by Vinnie - 2014-11-21 07:11:46

Hi Vicki, I had the AV-NODE ablated in 2009. My original pace maker was a 2 wire. In 2013 we changed the 2 wire to a 3 wire--- basically we are now pacing both ventricles instead of one. I now have a Medtronic CONSULTA -- CRT-P pacemaker. I am paced 100% of the time and I'm in AFIB just about 100% of the time. I do not feel the AFIB at all. As far as life with this pacemaker-- at first it was half and half, but once we got all the adjustments correct I'm feeling a lot better--- Stairs are a problem sometimes but since I also have CHF and I'm 77 years old, that doesn't help things. On the whole I would do it all over again as it's 150% better than AFIB since the last pill I was taking before the ablation was Amiodorone. Good Luck.
