I had a av ablatiion and pm put it and posted in general questions so I'm reposting in complications. I'm looking to see if anyone has experienced electric zings in their heart after getting a pm.
I had surgery on 10/23/13. I tried to going to some tough love for newbies and it wasn't a long read just said to consider the consequence of other surgeries. I have had open heart, neck fusion, breast cancer, and others. So I am no stranger to patience. I just need to know what is up with the zings. They feel like the pulse when you get electro stim therapy. They are like an electric pulse but not on the same rhythm as my heart beat. They sting a bit and are impossible to ignore. I am going in to the dr. office tommorrow to have the medtronic rep check out the unit. It is just frustrating when a dr. tells you that your symptom cant possibly be from the pacemaker. I didn't have it before. I have an extremely sensitive system and have allergic reactions that are unusual to most medication so I am used to going it without pain meds. Just trying to see if anyone else has had anything like this.

I want to thank you for your post. It is reassuring to have a possibility of what this might be. How long did they last?

Glad you found us. Most likely what you are feeling is the nerves knitting back together. I got them too and used to describe them as quick, sharp ant bites or bee stings. They are uncomfortable but when you know what they are (I didn't), it is more tolerable and yes....they hurt! lol

Of course keep your appt. tomorrow but I hope this eases your mind a little until then.

Let us know how it goes....good luck.

For Me

They lasted off and on for about 6 months. Less frequent and then out of nowhere, I would feel the "bites" again. I remember looking at my scar thinking something just bit me.

Everyone is different and heals at their own pace. I don't think everyone notices it though.

I had an AV Node ablation too, and I had those same "zings" you mentioned. Luckily, my EP doc and cardio doc both explained what was going on and that sometimes that just happens. Mine still does that, and I always describe it as a shock-like, bee sting, pinch, etc.

Mine is cause by a bad placed lead. They placed it the best they could, but scarring in that area from 2 open heart surgeries made it impossible to place the lead it the best place. Yours may be that too, or just from the nerves trying to heal. Hopefully, things will get better for you soon.

Give your body, heart, etc., plenty of time to heal, but if you continue having these problems too long, I'd ask to see if a lead could be causing it. Mine shows up very obviously on an X-ray, so maybe they could check on that the next time you have one.

Good luck, and I hope you feel better quick!

Yes. Me too

I had zings when I first got my pm and yes they hurt.
I juSt felt it was part of the recovery and they would go away. Every now and again they appear but really infrequently.
