80 bpm raised to 150 for exercise

This is a followup on my previous post: I am 55 yr old male w/3.5 week old PM, and my heart rate was limited to 80-85 during exercise. I had my PM adjusted today and my HR now plateaus at 145-150 during moderate exercise, which is much more comfortable. Thanks to all for advice, and for letting me know an adjustment might be warranted.

I am still concerned since the 150 bpm heart rate was essentially for a jogging pace workout (no hard breathing, 11 cal/min Precor elliptical). The tech put the the PM upper end at 150 which seemed to be the max setting, and where my PR is plateauing. PR did not increase with more resistance. I am wondering if this means I will have a permanent exercise limitation.

I complained loudly and with profanity to my rep and got mine raised to 180. Of course I do not have all your information on your condition, but hey, its your body!

If you pace 100% during exercise

Then your max pulse is the upper set limit of your pm. If you do not normally pace all the time then your max pulse rate will be what your natural heart rate capacity is. I only pace about 40% of the time and I have a hard time getting my natural pulse rate beyond 100bpm when exercising. But I don't jog so it doesn't cause me a problem. Occasionally I get as high as 160 temporarily when over exerting on a hot day. I don't think there is one simple answer to your question that fits everyone. Lots of variables.

Your max exercise rate should not exceed 80% of your calculated max based on your age.
