I had my 3 week post-op check-up yesterday. Everything went great. Thanks to the home monitoring they told me I had only 1 PVC and no other abnormal heart beats since the pacemaker implant. I'm pacing 66% of the time in the Atria and 0% in the Ventricle. He said I was good to start running and exercising as hard as I want (minus lifting anything heavy or arm above my head for another few weeks at least). I was set at 50-140 but he removed the upper limit completely since I've had no tachycardia incidents. He also lifted the heavy water consumption saying it was just something they liked to try but if I didn't notice any improvement then I could stop - and I actually slept through the whole night last night with no trips to the bathroom - yay!

upper limit

Judy, upper limit is how high it will pace, not how high your heart can go. Your heart can go as fast as it wants and the pm won't stop it. 180 is the most the majority of pm's out there can do. If you aren't pacing when your rate gets up, it's irrelevant where the upper limit is set.

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didnt slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.

Wow, running after 3 weeks. That amazes me. what also amazes me is that some doctors say no lifting arm for anywhere from 2-8 weeks.
I had an upper limit of 130 until I told them that is ridiculous and they raised it to 180. I have had no issues of my heart not getting up there when I exercise, just dropping when at rest. So I do not understand why there is an upper limit at all. I guess it is a precaution.
Good luck with running!
