PM on the move?

Hello all,

I'm 42 and almost 5 weeks post op. My new PM seems to be moving higher in my chest. It is suppose to be buried under my pec and hidden by my breast tissue. I still have considerable swelling on and off that extends towards my armpit and into my upper arm. I was told the swelling might happen because the breast tissue tends to weep until the pocket heals. At first you could not really see the PM. Now it is quit noticeable and just below my clavicle and is preventing me from reaching across my body. I can only put my left fingers on my right shoulder and is uncomfortable to do so. I cannot go any further without the PM pushing against my clavicle and causing pain. Does this sound okay to anyone or should I call the doc and let him know? I'm not worried about how it looks anymore, just that it heals and quits bugging me.

.................keep your eye on it ,..and don't leave any change too late.

If in doubt..check out / check in.

Danise..it will most probably be just fine...you can spare both you and the Pro's any complications.

Get sorted soon.

Similar discomfort

by Minnesota - 2013-10-21 07:10:35

Hi Danise. My PM is hitting my clavicle. It reduces range of motion and causes discomfort. Unfortunately I don't think there is a remedy unless it is severe enough to have a revision. I had an infection with first PM which was removed and new PM put on right side. I am grateful to have healed but disappointed I have to live with pain and discomfort. But I would rather live with it than risk another surgery. The PM may "settle in" with time and lessen the discomfort. But i expect I will have a revision when my battery needs replacement to locate it further below clavicle. My PM also became more noticeable over a short time. It looks like its "shrink wrapped" in location now. Very visible. I don't care though. I just want to move on. Hope this helps- I know how you feel.

call

Call and ask if they want to see you. Swelling is normal, moving that much is not.

PM not on the move..just the leads

by Danise - 2013-10-25 09:10:35

Thank you everyone for all your input. I was checked out by the cardiologist and he says my leads have come unwound from the PM and have slide behind and above it. He said I will not hurt anything by forcing my left arm while I reach my right shoulder. I will think about a revision at my checkup in January, but I'm thinking of leaving well enough alone until the battery needs changing.

movement

Good plan! Sometimes it drifts more and gets more comfortable. Most drs like to wait 6-12 months before revising to see if it settles in on its own. Good luck!

Did they tell you a heating pad on low can help get rid of fluid build up? Mine is submammary and can stay swollen for a while after replacements, heat helps. I use ice when I overdo it and it gets sore.

Thank you for the great advise. I have not tried heat. I have only tried ice. My leads are strange, sometimes poking out more than others depending on what I've been doing with my left arm/shoulder. I hope they get comfy in their new home cause I'm tired of them pocking under the clavicle and then under the fresh scar, or poking out like a finger (pinky), eww.

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
