PM Follow Up

Hey everyone, I'm pretty excited here. I'm a month post op and am believing now I am not just on an adrenaline rush, but am actually feeling so much better after the PM has been inserted. I am a teacher so I am super anxious to get to a new school year so I can be feeling alive again in the classroom. I was forcing it and trying so very hard before but did not know why I was on such a low and feeling so zapped. Ha, ha, one cannot fake having energy with a low heart rate.

I have days where my pulse is around 37 to 50's several times and then later, later in the day goes back to around 63. I am wondering how low and for how many minutes my hr needs to be before the PM picks up. These episodes are by far happening way less than before my PM, so I am not sure I should even be concerned. I just thought my PM was set not to be below 60. Should I still be concerned?

Thanks bunches for your input.

Over the top excited!!!!!!!

Had my one month after PM implant and have answers to the above question I posted.

With the PVC's I have, when I take my pulse, I get a different reading than what my heart rate actually is with my heart beat. My machine (and when I take it myself) does not pick up all the regular beats because of all the PVCs I have. I really understand now, especially since I have seen my EKG print outs as well as my heart rhythms on a screen.

We are going to make some med changes but other than that, everything is all systems go.

Onward and upward, charging on. No weight restrictions or lifting restrictions now. By the way, I do not sleep near as much as I did before. I am so very glad I had the pacemaker put in. I cannot wait to start a new school year and be naturally buzzing around the classroom once again. Trying to force feeling energy and getting around the classroom for 8 hours a day and feeling horrible was no fun before. (You have to understand I absolutely love what I do and feeling bad before was not "me.")

If it's set for 60 bpm, it's actually set for 1 beat per second, so if your heart goes a second without a beat, it kicks in right away. How are you getting 37? Don't trust most monitors, they can miss beats or sometimes even pick up the pm spikes as beats and show way too high. I always count manually. It's ok if it's a little under 60, like mid to high 50's, that can be little beats you don't feel or counting error. If you are counting less than that, make a note of the time and ask to have the pm checked to see what was going on at the time.

Glad to hear you are feeling more energized! I, too, faked it for a long time before. It was such a relief to finally feel good again.

Thank you, TraceyE

Makes sense what you are saying. I have the readings off of my blood pressure/hr machine. I will check with them because the way I felt did not surprise me about a low reading. Now after PM, and when I get that feeling at times, I cannot believe that was how I was increasingly consistently feeling.

Thank you again, TraceyE; I will be following up with them.

I had a pacemaker since 2002 and ever since then my life has been a total blessing.
