Just thought I would share as I'm bored stuck in hospital, I had my first pm fitted 6 months ago for 3rd heart block, I haven't felt well ever since and have had lots of problems and the pm dropped down low and started rubbing every time I move, soon it broke the skin and got very painful, I had a visit with my cardio dr and he admitted me straight away, turns out I have a bad infection, I have been in hospital 10 days now, after 4 days on iv meds they took pm and wires out while I was awake and cleaned it all out, found a few cysts under the pm and fresh infection on the top of it. since then I have been in hospital on total bed rest attached to a defib machine, my heart rate is in 30's most the time but is I sit up or move its all over the place and pausing for up to 10 seconds. on Monday they plan to put a new pm in and I cant wait, I think I still have to stay in until Thursday though as I need to finish the iv antibiotics. All the medications I'm on are making me so sick all day too. cant wait to feel better.
love Dawn

....................you really do get my sympathy on this one...I had a box break out in late '12 with the attendant lead infection....I am all sorted now , courtesy of a new set of hardware in my RH shoulder.
I see that you are a runner...Please tell your surgeon about this. My surgeon is a triathlete and told me that he would suture my replacement in to stop it bouncing about....TOTAL RESULT !
You may get a comment from an old reprobate called IAN MC...also a runner and from your neck of the woods.
Along with the others I send my best wishes..I am sure it will be ok...keep in touch.

Dawn, must have been very scary going through all this and then having it pop out. Since having mine put in I feel like a hypochondriac! I worry about everything - not living the way I use to but I am working on that! I have had my PM since Feb 20, 2013 it isn't even a year old yet! :-)
Hope you feel better soon!!! And to no issues this PM!

As Tattoo Man said I ,like you, am in Buckinghamshire and am a runner ( not much in this weather though ! )
I agree, being in hospital is SO BORING ; only 2hrs till dinner ! Oh look there are 3 nurses ! Will that Dr come over and talk to me or not etc, etc,. Still you will be home Thursday so not long to go now.
If you get too bored and decide to do " a runner" then give me a ring and my car will be there for your quick getaway
I hope all goes well

Dawn:
How horrible! I so hope the new pm will fix you up right this time. but they should have done it right the first time. Were you running a fever before they found the infection? or just pain from the pm breaking through? (that sounds so awful and it sounds like something went wrong) Be your own advocate and insist on knowing everything. I also hope a different doctor puts in the second one. I have had constant pain for 4 months, but they say oh well too bad so sad for you. Some of us just do not do as well with this foreign invader as others.
Here is hoping better health soon ! keep us updated.

Scary

It must have scared you to have it break through. I can't even begin to imagine. One corner of my ICD sticks out quite a bit. My EP told me I need to watch it to make sure it doesn't break out, and that is a troubling thing. It's hard to spend that much time in the hospital when your movement and activity is restricted. It sounds like you have a good attitude about getting another PM. That's really positive and a good way to start. Let us know how you make out. We'll be waiting to hear and sending good thoughts your way.

.................I just thought that you might do with a call from the outside world,..given that you are still stuck in the old Hospikal......its 8pm, our time so ,maybe 'Visiting Hours' are over......tough.....
So...
You are in the warm,..not in the freezing, windy cold that we have been having over the weekend..
Its 8pm here and we are watching Miranda as the Midwife..I like Miranda...a bit like Marmite,,..love or hate
So we get our first Gold at the Winter Olympics....
Mens downhill ...so photogenic.
OOh the nurses are calling 'time'...must go..
See you tomorrow..get some sleep..if you can..remember,..just as you are nodding off it will be 6am...nurse changeover and that's the end of your kip.

Erosion
by donb - 2014-02-09 08:02:51
HI Dawn, Hope your day is going better today. I just read your posting which brings back recent memories of my last pacemaker/ erosion last summer. If you want info just go into search & type (DonB) & you can follow my tracks. I'll private message you when I can get my laptop to cooperate when I select (compose). I would really like to share what I've learned with erosion problems as I've been there a number of times. If I'm not too late as you're having your replacement tomorrow, I'll be with you in thought and really hope your surgeon doesn't botch your next site. Good Luck !!

So..How did it go ??........
by Tattoo Man - 2014-02-10 03:02:29
............Hi Dawn..just me dropping in with some flowers and a bottle of Lucozade.
I hope it went ok today...you will probably still feel a bit groggy..try and get a decent nights sleep if you can..if that EVER happens in hospital !!
Don't be afraid to ask for a sedative to get you through the night...waking up and feeling like crap is not a good way to start the day.
Its 7pm here in the UK so you've probably had your evening meal and are watching the ward ..'warm down'...this is the time to watch some really crummy telly and veg out...
I'll drop in tomorrow if that's ok.
