I got a pacemaker August 14, 2012. I was admitted to the hospital (originally for a different procedure) on a Monday and discharged Friday. Had a weight gain of 10 pounds. I was distraught, especially since I had lost over 50 pounds. One of the prescribed meds (NORPACE) is a big weight gainer. Local cardiologist FINALLY prescribed something else. I had my annual physical June 2013. I had my annual physical June 2013 and agree with the internist that the weight gain is excessive. He discounted big time that meds cause weight gain. That's when I decided to research the correlation between a pacemaker and weight gain. The postings have already given me good insight. I have a cardiologist appointment in three weeks and will talk with him further. I hope he can shed light on the matter and then communicate with the internist (they're supposedly friends). I'm a fighter.

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.

Weight gain and Pacemakers? I put on 10 pounds and I can't get it off. I asked my dr. about it at my last PM check and he told me that I would have to drop down to under 1,000 calories a day if I wanted to lose the 10 pounds. He stated things to consider for me...
1,) Medications
2.) Age
3.) I am on meds to keep my heart rate down no matter what happens. So working out gives me nice muscles, but I probably wont loose any weight. Which I have not.
4.) He thinks the extra 10 pounds are fine on me.
I hope that I can keep my weight gain to 10 pounds. If you discover any more info. I'd love to read it. ;-) I can use all the help I can get.
