Target heart rate

Thank you, Bev, for your response...righto on max and target heart rate...I am hitting between 90-95 right now with no problems walking for 30 minutes...went to 105 one day with no problem. Before PM implant (Aug 2012), I often walked for two hours, and obviously am not in same shape I was then, but I wonder if my max rate might be higher than the 220 minus age equation (in my case--146). I suppose the only way to find out is by taking a stress test, correct? Thanks for the help.

Just my opinion/personal experience, but those formulas and charts don't mean much when we're paced and don't have normal hearts. Sometimes I feel great working out at 160, other days I work just has hard, feel the same and don't get above 130. Focus on how you feel, not what your rate is. I judge by talking. If i can sing along with the ipod, I'm not working hard enough. If I can talk but not sing, am sweating and feel good, not tired or dizzy... I figure whatever my hr is is just about right, whatever it happens to be. I don't count anymore unless I feel bad.

What Tracey says is true..these numbers are for the hundreds or thousands who take a stress test in a medical facility, and it is just a number. Everyone probably has their own personal number. Tracey is also right about exercise. As long as you can carry on a conversation during your exercise you are safe. ( I learned that after a heart attack in rehab)..But also remember that Tracey is 30 years you junior....So Don't pick her number..lol.. ps: when you feel bad is the only time you should count! and when you stop...Good for you!
