Today I went in for my 3 month post PM installed. I was having some problems with weird fast heartbeats when I exerted myself. He decided to turn off the rate response and said that should take care of the problem. I came home, went downstairs to get my clean laundry and fold it and my heart seemed to stop for a few seconds, then got very irregular, and stopping for a few seconds here and there. I got very dizzy and nauseous and started sweating profusely. Finally after sitting still for about 10 minutes it went back to normal beating. I called my doctor's answering service and am waiting for him to call me back yet. Please tell me this isn't normal. I was doing so well, except for a few fast heartbeats when over-exerting. Now I'm not sure what to do.

which supplements?

Duke,
Which supplements do you take, if I may be so bold as to ask? I am still on a low dose of Cardizem and thought that would have helped.

If I'm not mistaken and as far as I know, on this site, there's only me and another member Roys from Australia are taking supplements in place of medications. I know many members may not like what I say, but since you ask, I shall respond. Originally, I was prescribed to take Flecainide after my PM put in back in March this year, but I don't like side effects of drugs, so I researched for alternatives. I know Roys is a proponent of Dr. Steve Ryan at www.A-fib.com and you can find many information there.
For me, the supplements I take are Magnesium Taurate (made by Cardiovascular Research) and Taurine. I think Roys also take Magnesium in addition to Potassium. You can send him a message to ask him. Magnesium is a miraculous mineral/supplement. You should research on this mineral and find wonders about it. I hope I'm steering you into the right direction to help you with your case. After you're done with your research and still have more questions, you can send me or Roys a message. I will do my best to answer them. I wish you well and find a solution soon to ease your discomfort.

I Take it

I take Magnesium and no other medication other than a low dose aspirin and B complex plus C. I also have a banana every morning for Potassium. I posted the benefits of Magnesium on 2013-02-13, Help with A-fib. You might want to take a look.
I went 9 months without an A-fib attack but had to get cardioverted again in May. The Doc said," At least we got 9 months out of you." I'm still on no meds. I hate how beta blockers and other meds slow you down. I'm staying on a Magnesium supplement and Potassium rich foods as long as I see the benefits.

I am also from Australia and take no medications other then at times Magnesuim and Vitamin D.
I had my pacemaker put in as a emergery 3 years ago when I had a asystole cardiac arrest requiring CPR, I was later told that this was caused through AF due to Sick Sinus.
Months earlier I had been told that there wasn't anything wrong with my heart, so it came as a shock when my collaspe at home lead to me being admitting to ICU where I arrested several hours later.
Strangly enough I felt fine and I couldn't even feel that the top part of my heart was racing at 180+ beats a minute however the bottom kept stopping and was at the best only going at 10 beats. I still dont know if this is normal in AF as I thought the whole heart would beat the same. Maybe someone can please answer that one for me.?
I do feel my heart do funny beats and at times feel unwell for a why, but so long as I don't do too much I feel fine. I think it may be pacemaker related as I know one of my wires has moved slightly, however I am not sure and the doctors don't seem to give me any answer's when I ask anyway. I have been prescribe different meds but much perfer to go for the alterative such a supplements since for me they work just as good without any side effects.
Co- Enzyme10 is another excellent supplement to take , but if you are on different meds it is always best to check with your Doctor or Cardigolist before taking supplements incase they might interact.
I have read though that some Cardigolists are now prescribing Q10 because although they don't know if it will do any good it doesn't do any harm.
The drug companies make a lot of money on drugs that want neccessary make a difference and when a supplement will do the same without the side effects.
I think the most important think to do when it comes to your health is to make informed decisions and to realise that not one gloves fits all.

If it happens again call 911 or the equivalent in your country.
Don't wait for a nonresponsive MD!!

It appears that you were experiencing an episode of arrythmia and may have nothing to do with the PM. It just happened coincidentally when you just had the rate response turned off (I'm guessing). Now, to be sure of that, then just have your EP return it to the previous setting. And if it happens again, then you know it's not the PM rate response setting. Regarding, the episodes of arrythmia (Afib, fast beats, erratic beats, etc), medications are designed to assist that problem. In my case, I use supplements instead of medications. Just want to share with you my own thoughts about your problem.
Wish you can resolve the problem quickly.
