Target HR when exercising for weight loss

I have had my pacemaker for several years now but just starting to workout. My max HR is set at 90 so even when I exercise I don't feel like I'm accomplishing anything. I sweat but I don't know if I am actually burning the calories because my HR will only go to 90. I need some help with this. I'm struggling because I am trying to get healthy and lose weight.

It's kind of a moot point what the ideal for weight loss would be, your target appears to be 90. Will your dr turn it up more? I can go higher than that but have found that the charts are pretty much useless. I push until I'm sweating and can talk but not sing. Some days that's 120, other days it's 160. As long as I feel good, I figure it's all good. I wouldn't worry about if you are burning calories, just do what you can for at least 30-40 minutes, try to work up to longer. Slow and steady will get you there just as well as short and fast.
Diet is as important as exercise, make sure you are getting the right amount of calories- not too much or too little- and that the foods you are eating are giving you energy, lots of protein and good carbs.
