Well, I'll admit a 4-letter word came to mind first, but as a moderator I'm supposed to set a good example and all that ;oP
BTDT - this is the crappiest news...

...I've heard all day.
I got it about about 11 yrs ago. Would not wish C Diff off on my worst enemy. Was lucky, like you - they caught it early & I survived it. During my recent abdominal surgery the surgeon was afraid I'd developed it again & w/i hours of the first signs, had me on oral Vancomycin. Did that for ten days. When you already have the "Galloping Trots," who can tell if there are any side effects from the Vanco?
Compared to what they were giving me to "Eat," the Vanco tasted great!
Must have killed it - it did not kill me.

No, it's not dumb at all! In fact, I have eaten yogurt & kefir for 30 years when taking antibiotics..... also made my own. When I had C.Diff before, I read BACTERIA FOR BREAKFAST, written by a pharmacist whose toddler almost dies with C.Diff.... also joined a C.Diff support group online & learned a lot that helped me....in fact browsed the site for 2 hours last night refreshing my memory & learning some new stuff.... what makes C.Diff so difficult to eradicate is it reproduces by spores, the antibiotics they give for treatment don't kill the spores, only the adult bacteria.... so some people fight this for months and years & some finally die form a perforated colon.... it is a serious condition.
I am hoping that I caught this before it does turn into a night mare. Today I will copy the Nextmd series of emails about this before it accidentally gets erased....
Going to contact the Hospital's Patent Advocate also.
eek is right!

Ha! You made me laugh when I read that! and I needed a laugh... i was thinking that today.... at least we caught in right away; so many people live with it & wait for referrals and a long time goes by before diagnosis....that gives the pathogens a long time to proliferate.... it spreads by spores, and they are hard to kill.... so looking at other means of healing in addition to the antibiotic....

I wouldn't be here if it were not for this amazing technology inside of me.
