Shoulder pain still after 9 months

Hi guys, I am new here. I am a healthy 56 and I had my PM put in on 1 August 2012 (no warning, at home, then had 15 heart failures in 5 hours in hospital) and have found it hard to cope (mentally), but have been getting better. The worst thing is that I have constant pain around the "nodes" (wires) near my shoulder. Sometimes I cannot go to work.
The Surgeon says my PM is working fine and doesn't have an answer for the pain. He will relocate it if I ask him too, but he would rather not, due to possible complications (infection, etc).
I am in fear of losing my job due to the days I have taken off with the mental aspect and the constant pain. Now I have to decide whether to have the second operation or not (my choice).
Has anyone had a similar experience? Please help with any advice.
Thank you so much - This is an awesome site for us.

Thank you Angrysparrow and Chels for your replies, they are most helpful. I will take your advice and seek a physiotherapist first.
My pain is not "in" the shoulder, it is a direct result of the "leads" which feel like they are ripping the flesh. It is a very isolated pain, but I will try physio before I take any other type of treatment.
Thank you again and best wishes.

Hi Curzon,
I am having the exact same problem. I had my pacemaker replaced in October & I just had my 6 monthly checkup and they couldn't suggest any reason for the pain. They actually told me i'd have to learn to live with it. but I shouldn't have to, I had no problems after the last replacement surgery 6 years ago, so why now. please could you let me know how you get on with physio
Good luck

Hi,
It has been a while since I posted. My shoulder has gotten better by itself. Still a little pain but about 90% improvement. I have found that when my pacemaker "moves" closer to my shoulder, the pain stops, so I coax it back there with gentle massage.
I hope you are feeling less pain. I might still try physio, but for now I am happier.
Regards,
Curzon

ortho?

Jusy a thought have you thought of seeing an orthopaedic doctor to see if there is any muscle/joint issues. It could be that you're associating it with your leads because that's something you can put your finger on that is new and had changed since this pain started, but it could be totally unrelated. . I think it's worth a consult.
