Hi, I had a pacemaker/defib implanted about 3 weeks ago. I am pretty much over the surgery and was feeling good up until 4 days ago. I am now feeling very lethargic and also have a pulse rate of 135 at resting. This is not consistent but it goes back and forth with none being under 110. When it gets above 110 I usually get light headed and shaky.
The only thing different that happened was that four days ago I was using my cellphone and even though I had it down in front of me about 15 inches away from the pacemaker I could feel it disturbing it so I then stopped using the cellphone.
I also have CHF with my heart pumping at 35% and since this happened I have had a lot of congestion and coughing.
What I am wondering is could using the cellphone somehow turned off the pacemaker? This is all so new to me. I did leave a message with my doctor and she is supposed to call me back.
I thank any who resound in advance!

go to the ER if your dr doesn't call back

If your dr has not called back by now, I would go to the ER. Hopefully it's nothing, but better safe than sorry.
The devices only ADD beats, so if anything if it were turned off your hr would drop, not go up.
Congestion and coughing could be something you picked up in the hospital. I don't think I've ever had a surgery and not come home with some sort of bug. If it's chest congestion, it's unlikely but not impossible that it's pericarditis. Again, get it checked asap, please. Odds are that is not what it is, but if on the small chance it is, it can be life threatening if not treated.
Your cell phone did not cause this. The worst thing that can happen with a cell phone, or any home electronic device, is it could possibly put it in test mode but only for the period of time you are too close to whatever has a magnet that's too large. There is a switch in the device which can be pulled closed with a strong magnet, as soon as you get away from the switch releases and it's back to full function.

I also have CHF with a low EF, after taking all the meds and having a defib put in, I feel ok, but I have to have the defib and leads replaced on 7/24. To say I am scared is an understatement. But, I will not let this implant lead me down the road I was on when I got diagnosed with CHF, I got it from a virus, I went from having a strong heart to having a weak heart, I live in NY which has great docs, but I am trying to have a more positive attitude this time, this time they will put me out last time it was twilight and I heard 2nd implant is harder cause they have to take the leads out, great, so tell me your story, I am 53 yrs old you can answer me at my email ttb002@aol.com I have never got shocked by the defib, thank god
