What to expect

I'm 2 months post op and am working everyday to get back into
a pre op condition. My pacemaker is set to a max. 150. Has anyone exceeded the max. and if so, what can I expect to feel if I do. I currently have a mental block about working too hard.

well you could exceed, but

why? TARGET HR is what you should aim for and not maximum. Max does not feel good or have any benefit. Just keep that target in range.....since my resting HR is 50ish my target is about 118. donr set me straight on this a few month ago.GOOD LUCK!

I ran the treadmill at Duke about 1 year after my PM and my max is 140 and I hit around 180 - had no problems other than my legs felt like jello :)

max

What happens when you exceed the max depends on how you pace. If you have something atrial like SSS and mostly pace atrial and get up that high on your own, nothing happens. You won't get higher than that pacing atrial, it just stops pacing higher when it hits the max.

If you have av block and pace ventricle, then your atria beats normally but you depend on the pm to pace ventricles and keep them in sync with the atria. In that case, if your atrial rate goes over 150, you will know pretty quickly! I get dizzy, arms and legs turn to lead, energy plummets. When that happens, if I count my pulse it's always at my upper limit! I try to stay about 10 under my max so I have a comfortable cushion.
