Hi, i had my first PM fitted 3 days ago without any pain releif, wrong choice! i felt every injection and it hurt when they were inside pulling and tugging, it all went wrong and took 2 and half hours to put in a dual pm, next time i will ask for something to knock me out, although its very sore and painful i do feel more energetic, but i still feel breathless and my throat and next area feel a bit restricted and sore, im not sure if this is normal or if it will go away, has anyone else had these problems

Pain Relief

You MUST have had a local anaesthetic which numbs the skin and tissues and blocks all pain signals going via the nervous system to your brain. Nobody has a PM fitted without "pain relief" because the local should provide complete pain relief . If you experienced pain during the procedure then there was something really wrong.
Once the local wears off which can take a few hours some people, but not all by any means, need pain killers...do you mean that you didn't take pain killers afterwards ? ( I didn't need them and had no postoperative pain whatsoever but we are all different ! )

When you say you refused pain relief, do you mean general anaesthetic?
Ouch ouch ouch

Just wanted to clarify. Local pain relief does not provide complete pain relief. You still feel the pressure of what is taking place. You will also have more pain as the local wears off. Everyone is different in how they respond to local's as well. Sort of like when you go to the dentist. Some people need very little local, while other people need more than one injection.
Most of us are also given conscious sedation with something like Versed. Other pain medications can also be given I.V. as an adjunct to the other medications.
I was pretty out of it when they put in the pacemaker, they really gave me some meds.
When I had to have the incision revised the local was wearing off and I felt the last of the stitches as well as the last four staples being placed and yea, IT HURT!
Thankfully it is over now and you can mend.

It's only been 3 days, your body needs to heal, plus they may need to change the settings after your first visit back to the clinic.
I assume though that you had a local anaesthetic? You of course feel those injections, that is the anaesthetic being administered, but surely you didn't feel the knife cutting you?
My dual lead took 2 hours to do, they couldn't get a lead to sit right & there was tugging & pulling, but no pain. Discomfort yes.
I wasn't offered a sedative, luckily the surgeon was an interesting person to chat to.
