6 days post op

Hi,
I'm 40 years old and had a dual chamber pacemaker implanted 6 days ago.
There were no issues with the op, although the first night was quite uncomfortable - with chest pain lying down. I'd hd a post op X-ray so the nursing Taff assured me that everything was fine. The pain at night has eased significantly but at night I'm still experiencing some discomfort when lying down - a sort of burning pain in the centre of my chest when I take a breath. I also have a bad headache okay, but this could be due to lack of sleep last night as I felt quite uncomfortable and agitated. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that what I'm experiencing is normal. I had an internal cardiac monitor fitted a few years go and bounced back from that really quickly so may have had unrealistic expectations for this op. I'd really appreciate any input.
Many thanks,
Ali (dublin)

Ditto what Sabine said, go rule out pericarditis. Hopefully it's just normal healing but better safe than sorry.

Pericarditis

I think you should see your doctor. Your symptoms sound like pericarditis. You might want to search for that to see if it matches what you're feeling. In any case, if you feel something is not right, you should get it checked. No one here would want to give you false assurance. I hope you feel better soon!

I echo the above....

I had pericarditis and what you are explaining sounds exactly like what I had.

Insist that you get a cardiac echo/ultrasound or a chest CT scan.

Keep us posted and best of luck.

Thank you all so much for your advice - I really appreciate it.
Am feeling much better today after a good nights sleep, but am going to get it checked out anyway.
Thanks again - and hope you are all well.

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
