Hi Everyone,
Haven't posted for a few years but have a query regarding av node ablation. I have afib and had an av node ablation in about 2005 and a pm inserted at that time. I have not been able to find any info on whether the atria keep enlarging as they are allowed to fibrillate while the ventricles are paced. I have enlarged heart already and wondered if the atria will keep enlarging due to the near constant fibrillation ( afib is now over 50%)......any info would be appreciated - I now have heart failure. cheers

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
Mine Is

Hi Ajay,
I'm not sure how it is with others in our situation, but with mine, it has continued to enlarge, but at a slower rate.
I had heart failure prior to my procedure, so I still have it afterwards. I will say though, the symptoms have improved.
It was explained to me before I had mine done, that since all of my problems (A-fib, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, low EF, etc.) would not be fixed by the procedure, the heart would continue to be damaged, but "hopefully" at a slower rate.
Again, I'm not sure if this is the same for you, but this is how it's working for me.
Do ask your cardio/EP doc and/or PM tech at your next visit to see what they have to say.
Good luck!
