sedation

I had mine 2 months ago, v little sedation, I was awake the whole time, chatting to the surgeon. No pain, just some pulling & sharp sensations in my chest as they had difficulty in placing a lead, at one point I had a nurse pulling my left arm out to shift the artery a little. Took about 2 hours in all.
They got me to cough quite a few times & take large breaths, so I couldn't be asleep anyway.
You'll be fine.

Sedation.

Meant to say karen, i have not taken any medication since the insertion. Yes, it was uncomfortable for a couple of days. I notice you have posted in a nothe rplace and have had US post op suggestions. We do it a little different in UK (i lived in US for a few years) thanks ro our brilliant NHS. Apart from no driving, lifting etc I have walked every day since day 1. My PM was put in at 9.30 am in he morning and took about 1.5 hours start to finish. It was all very relaxed. I was checked at 2.30pm and walked out the hospital at 3.30pm.
I did have to sleep on my back, which is alien to me for the first week, after that pretty well my normal position on my side or tummy. I am being very sensible and not pushing it, wlaking arond 6 miles a day now to keep a reasonable level of fitness.
My issue was a sinus node, obviously there are different situations requiring a pacemaker. My BP is normal and they have set the PM to kick in at 50bpm. Which is slightly above my normal resting pulse. The consultant told me they would lower it at my 6 week check.
When out walking I have been wearing a heart rate monitor and pulse has been up to about 110.
Yes, it does feel different but physically I feel fine.
It is taking me a little while to get my head round having the PM fitted though, it was a real shock to me that I might need one...... Now I am a turbo charged human dynamo.
I am sure ou will feel so much better once this is fitted.

Hi, It is 2 weeks today since I had my dual PM fitted with local anasthetic. Dont worry !!
It was not painful, just sensation of pushing and prodding, not as bad as dentist by a long way.
Easy to say, but just try not to think about it, relax and it will be fine. 2 weeks on I have no pain and having to resist the temptation to just carry on as normal, but I know I must wait until my 6 week check to ensure the scaring has secured the leads.

i had versed was awake too but very relaxed. i also have versed for colonoscopies every five years but with that i am out so it must be the difference in dosage. i went back home to my home town hospital in an ambulance with a reg.nurse and a little suitcase she carried. everything turned out fine and i had only mild discomfort and took e.s. tyleno. i slept for 3 months literally after in the afternoons and then one day i was full of energy again. so all for now.jessie hope this helps. my p.m. was for braddychardia

Sedation

I had my insertion a little over a week ago and it was a piece of cake. No pain, no anxiety because of the sedation, just a feeling of pressing, the surgeon asking me to cough a few times. I didn't hear any talking or noise, just didn't have a care. That is modern anesthesia!
Don't worry, you will be fine!
