Don't think this is a problem

if your heart dies with rest of you doesn't matter what PM does. Least that's my understanding. You might want to check for the subject under the "Search" button on top right of this page. This has been discussed before & am sure others will weigh in on your current post.

I worried about this too in the past,

Living Will

The Living Will I got has a place to add some things as stated by Cabg Patch. I also would check it with the hospital to make sure they will follow your instructions.
Hope it isn't needed for many, many years. Good luck, Kreth

i have a living will which states that should i become unable to decide for myself and if i am in a vegetative state much worse than i am now. my pacemaker will be made defunct or what ever they do. i agree with patch we have many politicians who are brain dead but continue to live on with a heartbeat. also i was along with one brother called upon to decide for my dad when he was needing 100% oxygen, he was 87, he had pneumonia and chf four times that year and he had contracted bedsores from the good care he got. not!!! i can only say that my youngest brother an attorney who had no relationship with my father said we had no right even tho my dad asked us to witness this in writing when he was well. so i agree that it should be someone not emotionally involved for sure.....jessie

Death with a pacemaker

Dying is not a single event, it is a series of events. You can die from a cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, a combination of the two, or brain stem failure, lack of blood volume etc..

The maintenance of the heart depends on having a circulation eg. if you bleed out, the heart will stop ( I hear the Marathon Bomber today had a cardiac arrest from blood loss and could not be revived in hospital in Boston). You also need oxygen and some sort of energy ( glucose).

I have attended a number of people at their deaths having pacemakers ( some with cancer). Believe me, people die with pacemakers.

You should have no fears, when your time is up, your time is up! Otherwise, perhaps there would be a section of the population wanting to live for ever with a pacemaker!
