Well, I go to see cardiologist for my first pm check. Now I can ask why my heart races so fast just walking to another room. I take my pulse and it is almost 98 bpm when my rate is set at 70, and then it quickly goes back down when I sit. Does anyone else have this issue? Hope it is something he can adjust.

Hi Kathy,
I'm guessing the problem is that the rate response is activated on you PM. It is supposed to increase your heart rate when you go from "doing nothing" to a little physical activity. However, it does sound like your's may be a little over anxious. No matter, if that is the problem the Dr will know and it takes about 3 seconds during a PM checkup to adjust it to what you need.
Good luck,

Smitty is spot on!
A comment: 98 BPM is by no means "Racing." You may sense it, but you have to be in the 120 BPM to even be close to racing.
70 BPM should be a resting rate, really, & probably only reached when you are quite relaxed, doing nothing. You should not spend much of your time in the 70 BPM mode - unless, of course, your resting mode is in the 50's or 60's. But, in that case, you could never reach the resting rate because the PM's lower limit is set too high.

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didnt slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.
Thanks for comments

Yes, both are right and went to doc this morning. They will be reducing my base to 60. I have been in the 90's routinely before my problem with needing this pacemaker and never had an issue with shortness of breath or anything. In fact when I went into Atrial fluter with rate 158, only sensation was nervousness. Hopefully new base rate will help. I appreciate your comments. Really been a help with all this. My profession is a nurse, but when things happen to you it is so different.
