When I had my implant on March 20th ,I ask the Doctor about playing golf,He suggested I wait until around middle of june, That would be about 3 months,or 10 to 12 weeks, and I can sure wait until then ,I do not want to go through this again by being stupid and doing something I should not do
better to be safe than sorry
PS I am 77 coming up on 78 in June 10,so I guess that would be a good Birthday gift

That is not Durch,it is Church, old finger do not move like they used to.Sorry
Yes it could be your age !.I don't think so.

You are much much older than me . I am a mere 74 . Your age should make absolutely no difference to your healing rate .
I hope your putting is better than mine; I wore a groove in the living room carpet when I was recuperating from a PM implant .................... and, I still can't putt !!!
I still believe your Dr is being very very conservative. Listen to your body, and go for it ! Don't wait 10 weeks.

My dr says anything is ok after 6 weeks except a full golf swing, wait 3 months on that. Chipping and putting is ok earlier. He's generally pretty liberal about things so I was surprised to see the limits on golf. Our county has more golf courses per capita than any county in the USA, and PGA headquarters are here so he's had more than a few golfers as patients, amateur and pro.
If you think about it, chipping and putting don't break any rules because you don't raise your arm above shoulder level or lift, so theoretically it's ok as soon as we feel up to it.
8 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks, 14 weeks ?

You can take your pick ! My cardiologist, who is a very keen golfer, told me to play normally after 8 weeks . I did and had no problems !
The only determining factor on how soon you should resume activities after a PM implant is the strength of the scar tissue holding the leads in place , Does scar tissue strengthen after 8 weeks ? Is it stronger after 12 weeks than it is after 8 weeks ? I don't know ! Have clinical trials been done with golfers fitted with PMs . I very much doubt it !
It seems to me that these recommendations from cardiologists are done on a very arbitrary basis hence the wide variation in their recommendations.
I get the impression, golf one, that you will be happier if you err on the side of caution so that is the right course of action for you !
Enjoy your golf.... (eventually.)

Very Cautious !

Hi golf one . I think your Dr is being ultra-cautious . People can normally do a full golf swing after 8 weeks max.
You can practice putting and chipping very soon after PM implant ; then gradually get back into pitching and try driving with a half swing. I suspect that your doctor is not a golfer !
Whilst I accept "better safe than sorry " you can be too cautious and miss out on some good golf rounds.
Best of luck
Ian

To tell you the truth I never even give it a second thought. While growing up it never stopped me from doing anything and to this day my girlfriend or my kids need to remind me that I have one!

my doctor is an avid golfer, but maybe my age has something to do with waiting,he did not say,The reason I even asked is our Dhurch is having a 2 day golf tournament 26 and 27th of this month and I wanted to go,But guess I will skip this one
I have been using my arm but not to lift anything over 4 lbs of sugar,
again I guess it is better to be safe on something like this
I have been putting some here in the house,Thanks for all the comments, greatly appreciated
