Feel ill after check-ups ??

Hi PM friends

Just had another routine PM check-up and have come away feeling worse than previously. I have a Guidant dual chamber PM and did have to undergo some complex tweaking because of twitching. However that was all sorted in February and from then until last Wednesday I was feeling GREAT. However, I went for the check-up, explained to them all about the twitching and asked them not to change any of the settings etc.
Since then I have been experiencing a horrible heart thumping sensation in the left side of my neck at the front/side...the left side of my neck and face feel very hot, and today I felt dizzy and light-headed. I also felt very tired and became trembly. The technicians maintain they didn't alter anything at all and can't understand what's happened. In fact something similar happened when I had a previous check up in January and 5 weeks later had to be re-admitted to hospital and everything re-set. Is it possible that routine check-ups can or do upset things like this ???
Kind regards to all
Mari Carmen

Problems After Checkup

It is absolutely possible. It is not just the checkup but
the person doing the checkup. There are more than 1,000 possible settings combinations. If the person doing the checkup (that can be the doctor or a nurse/technician) does not fully understand all the things a pacemaker can do it is quite possible to have things change form checkup to checkup. Your only defense is to get a copy of the printout at the end of each checkup. That way you will have a means to compare what may have been changed, although it will not necessarily tell you what those changes really mean. But it can provide specific questions for you ask.

As for what is happening now, see if you can a manafacturers rep. to check out our PM. They not only have extensive training in making adjustments to pacemakers, they also have a very good understanding of the pacemaker itself. In addition, (I think this is the most important part) if a rep runs into something they do not understand they can, without hesitation, speak to people in their organization for help.

Good luck,

It's much better to live with a pacemaker than to risk your life without one.
