I received my PM in Jan 2013 and within a week felt wonderful. Like new again. This week I can sense my heart out of rhythm. I feel much better than I used to when that happened and can still work around the house. But I wondered if this is common? Can your heart still revert back to the AFib even if only for a little while. I guess I thought with a PM it never happened again. Thanks to anyone who has an answer.

Still In A-fib

Shepheart is correct. A PM will not "cure" A-fib. I was in chronic (permanent) A-fib prior to my CRT-P, and still am afterwards. The only thing it helped was keeping my rate at a controlled rate instead of an uncontrolled high rate.
My A-fib no longer responds to any meds, procedures, or cardioversions (chronic since 1987), so none of those are options for me. If your A-fib is bothering you, and yours responds to any of those things, you might want to speak to your cardio doc about giving one a shot.
Good luck!
Afib

A pacemaker will not cure Afib. It may help the condition. Before my pm I had SSS and occasional Afib. With the pm I take warfarin and a beta blocker to slow the heart rate. My doctor expects my Afib to become more constant over time. The goal is something called rate control, to prevent the ventricles from beating too fast. So far it is working. ( I am experiencing Afib as I type this.)
You too Maggie!

Take care Maggie and keep us up to speed on how you're doing.
This site is awesome! It helped me SO much in the beginning. I'm glad you're feeling better about what's going on. I'd still mention it to your cardio doc to see what he says.
Blessings,

My pacemaker was installed in 1998 and I have not felt better. The mental part is the toughest.
Thanks so much

I so appreciate Shepheart and Tammy's response. I have been feeling so good since the PM was inserted, then when I started feeling so tired and started to feel the beat in my neck and chest speed up, I was surprised and apprehensive. Thank heavens for this site. It's wonderful to be able to talk to people who have been down this road. I do take 80mgs of Sotalol and Warfarin.
I will mentally refuse to stress myself and just deal with things. Hope you both continue to do well.
Maggie
