Just received my first PM two weeks ago. The same itchy rash that everyone else has, started the day after I came home. A friend, who is a doctor said she thought it was from the solution they spread all over the incision. Thinking now from reading everything it was probably the tape.
I gently let water run over the entire thing like they told me to when I took my showers. Tape fell off yesterday. Still itching despite being told to use Benedyl spray. So happy I found this site, at least I know I'm not the only one.
It is strange having a PM but feel so much better now than before. I was afraid I was somehow allergic to the PM itself. Not at least I know that's not the case. Have two hip replacements and one knee replacement and this has never happened with any of those things.

I have a rash that comes and goes. When it happens, it is along the scar line, above and below it. I posted a photo in the gallery here a few years back when I was seeking some help for it, if you want to take a look at it.
When it erupts, which is about 5-7 times a month, it still looks exactly like that...no calmer at this point. After about 3-4 hours it calms down. I've been to about 7 Doctors and no one knows what it is.
I went to a Dermatologist in NYC who said it was because I was athletic (his guess and not really) and asked me if I wanted a job because he liked the photos I took of the eruption (true story). He said he could put a needle in the scar to try and help it...I passed on that...and the job (whatever that was going to be). LOL You can't make this stuff up.
How did your replacements go? I am due for a hip replacement very soon. How does it all feel now, range of motion, etc?
Take care,

Lost skin from compression tape.

I had a reaction the day after from the compression tape. Acted like a 2nd degree burn. The trainee nurse decided to remove it in a dark room as it was weeping and it took off a bunch of my skin with it before I could stop her. I was told by a very educated burn nurse to put zinc oxide creme on it. Available over the counter for rash like from poison ivy and the like. Put it on after shower and it healed amazingly fast. I just let soapy (dial) water run over it and rinsed without touching it except for the zinc oxide creme. Boy did that help with the itching and dryed up the "Burn" real fast.
