Look about ten-12 posts down for post by pmredhead - same title as mine. My original post on the subj is almost off the page now. Redhead's post has all the original links I posted if newcomers to this subj are interested.
This new link is to an article in an electronics magazine about safetyu & security of medical devices & hospitals in general. For those interested, it's a good read. BTW: it was prompted by Barnaby Jack's original presentation in Melbourne.
I rec'd it from a known associate in the electro-optics business in Connecticut.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.

"Don - I think that the programmers of lots of small embedded software are in for a rude awakening when they realize that they are no longer running in a secure environment. Not entirely their fault, either, I think. They created their app to run in isolated processors, that had no connection to the outside world except the device they were running, then the world changed on them - both in regard to the connectivity, and to the people who want to take advantage of that to do mischief.
Also, most of them have probably forgotten about their older, smaller programs. Kinda like what happened when the Y2K uproar came along; plenty of programs that were working fine were all of a sudden questionable. And even when the creator of some piece of control code was known, he forgot what he did and how he did it, because it was so long before!
