Hi guys
It has been awhile since my last post. I have myself booked to do Mudderella in July. It is a 6 mile obstacle course. Has anyone here ever attempeted one of these? How did it go? My concern is mostly doing the pulling with ropes over walls. And the army crawl under barb wire. I think it should be ok but just wondered if anyone else has tried.
Thanks
Laura

....................you are long enough after implant,..so its really up to how much nerve you have..
Six miles is a do-able distance if you are half-fit.
Mud Runs attract a very different breed of runner,.... so you can expect lots of support from your fellow competitors ....shout out that you want a hand if you need pulling up a slippery slope..you will find yourself helping others too..
If you encounter an obstacle that you REALLY don't want to do,..then bypass it..no one will think the less of you..you are there to challenge YOURSELF...NOT feel bullied.
Wear crap kit, especially trainers,...stuff that you are prepared to stuff into the dumpster at the end...and on that tack...take a good set of yummy warm change of kit....if its a bit cold you can get 'Space Blanket Jackets' on-line..and then stick on a Parka on top.
Have someone to come along and support you/greet you back in/help you get dressed.
Some people 'seed' the course with bottles/goodies/jelly babies at strategic points.....knowing that behind that way marker ,up ahead is a 'treat' is a great way of motivating yourself and garuanteeing that you wont crash with lack of sugar.
DONT RACE !!...walking is way-OK...you will meet fellow competitors in the same boat and will find people that you will make fantastic bonds with...all runners fall in love during a 10k or Half Marathon with total strangers that have kept each other going when things get tough......
Scotia...DO let us know how you get on...let us know the date and venue....I for one, will put it in my diary, so I can send out some good vibes on the day
Good on ya !!

I haven't done a Mudder but it's on my bucket list :) I did an adventure race last year, which is similar but without all the mud. It was a 3 mile course with 15 obstacles, some of which were in a lake and others in the ocean. It's all the same sort of moves I do at Crossfit, so I didn't have any problems.
The barbed wire is ok but some of the races use electric wire. That's about the only thing I would not do. I have some friends doing a Spartan next month (conflict so I can't go, boo) so I looked into the obstacles. They do use electric, the rule is you can skip any obstacle but you have to do a 30 burpee penalty.
I wouldn't attempt the ropes unless you've tried it first. It should be ok, but know what you're getting into. Will you be part of a team? Team ropes are easier than climbing it on your own.

Tat man is so right, these races definitely attract a certain breed and part of that mentality is teamwork. I think I'd still be treading water in the lake if some nice guys hadn't given me a hand! And ditto the shoe advice. Since it wasn't a mudder I wore shoes I actually liked and would have worn again. They did not survive.
Have fun!!!! Get someone to take pictures and post them. It's nice to see the gallery full of pictures of members being active and living life to the fullest. Gotta balance out the scar and hospital bed pictures ;o)

........if you commit to doing Filthy Fun then do consider some serious footwear ...
Sorry about the plug..but ..look at INNOV8 MUD CLAWS
These give you the equivalent of 4X4 traction and shoes that are indestructible....and they come in BROWN...
These shoes actually invite you to get into the mire,..even with a hard left/right turns in the process..
To be able to , confidently smash into puddles of unknown depth is a real blast...

Hi all
I will definetly keep you all up to date. This race is not until July 11th,2015 (I believe that is the date.) I will definetly let you all know how it goes. I have a lot of training to do to get ready but I am definetly looking forward to the challenge. And hearing fellow pacers stories definetly helps give me the courage to give it a go.
Thanks again
You know you're wired when...
You invested in the Energizer battery company.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
Great!

Yes I will be part of a team. If we can't do parts we can walk around. I just wondered if anyone came across anything that would injure the pacemaker.
The only part I thought might be tough would be the pulling up and over. I will be training prior to so I guess I will just have to see as I go. As far as the wall we use the rope to pull ourselves up with It doesn't look like those walls are that high. But they do have a rope climbing wall(use your feet and hands to crawl up)that is higher.
It is a six mile race with 12-15 obstacles.
I never thought about the electric wire I will have to look into that. It looks like it will be fun to try and definetly one to strike off the bucket list. Also it is not until July so I have a few months to train. Thanks again for your sharing your experience.
