Hello,
First and foremost my name is Hayes, I am a 24 year old male, who just had my first pace maker put in on 12/12/12. I was born with d-transposition of the great arteries. (heart works backwards) I have had 2 open heart surguries, countless caths a melody valve and most recently the pace maker. Said pace maker is a medtronic one. I go in on 1/4 for a pacer check and for them to turn it on. I am kind of nervous as to what to expect when that happens. Can any one tell me how that is and what should be expected?

Checkup

It's unusual for them not to leave the pacer on at implant, but you have an unusual condition. The actual checkup etc. is simple. They will put a small transducer puck over the pacer to make contact with it. Then they will enter any changes into their programming compute and send it to the pacer. It responds instantaneously.

Now as to how that feels it depends what they have programmed it to do. It can cause changes in your HR with exercise or resting.

The important thing is to feel free to ask questions and expect them to make sense with the answers. Find out what to expect.

best wishes,
frank
