Does anyone use Byetta?

Good morning. I was just wondering if anyone with diabetes is using the new pen Byetta. I just got the pen 2 weeks ago and am very pleased with my blood sugars. Diabetes and heart disease usually go hand in hand. I have a difibrillator that was one year old in Aug.

I have been told that I might lose some weight with Byetta. Boy, I sure hope so. But the main thing is to get my HbA1c test down to normal. My last test it was 7.1%. My sugar has been running 78, 88, and 91 before breakfast. I think that is great compared to what I normally run. Thanks, Judy

A physician's opinion

by auntiesamm - 2007-10-04 01:10:06

Hi Everyone,

My PCP and I had a conversation recently about TV and other media advertising and what it adds to OUR COSTS as patients. Byetta was a drug she brought up as being highly touted on TV but with which she has seen little research to support its' use at this point. She and her colleagues as she told me are constantly pushed to prescribe medications against their better judgement because patients fall for the advertising. She said even patients whose medical problems are well-controlled on current meds will ask to change. Her premise is: the safest, proven drugs will be prescribed for her patients with lthe owest cost a serious consideration. I feel so blessed to have such a common sense physician taking care of me!
