Hey guys! I'm Day 10 Post-op for a lead extraction. Since I had 4 surgeries since this Nov.5, is it possible that my immune system weakend? I usually don't get colds and when I do I get either bronchitis or pneumonia. I was having a tickle in my throat yesterday and now one of my nasal cavities is blocked. It helps to walk around to move the fluids in my nose but when I stay still, it's an almost complete block. I don't mind it right now because it's just starting but is it bad that's it's relatively soon after surgery? Don't get me wrong...I'm not super worried at all. I can always deal...but since I've never really had surgery and never dad a cold in a short time afterwards, I wonder if this would be different.
Any input is appreciated and Merry Christmas to all!!!!!

I was thinking about that- how it was possible that I picked it up in the hospital...but a 9 day incubation period? Also, when I got back, all my teachers were sick. i went to school today to get together with my math teacher and he was profoundly sick- had a fever of 102.8 last night and was congested. But, I didn't get what he has since I already have the symptoms and a cold doesnt develop that fast.
I will take precautions as you said but I don't drive nor can I visit a doctor without a parent. Saying this, my mom won't take me unless I spike a high grade fever and act like I did when I had pneumonia- worst feeling ever, excrutiating pain with limited space to breathe.
IF/when I go to a doctor, I'll be sure to tell him that. thanks!
And, I can't really rest my body to fight this. I still have school and an exam to take care of...that means going back to all those sick people ugh
I don't have a fever now- I never do when it's this early..only a day in to the symptoms.
Thank you again!!!!

No place has more germs than a hospital! I've come home with cold/flu almost every time I've been admitted. I think incubation can be up to 2 weeks but you could also pick it up at school. You've been through so much it's not a surprise your immune system is a mess. Get all the sleep you can and try to eat well. Can you make up the exam if you miss a day of school? (I have high school kids, I *know* what you're gonna say but I'm a mom, you know I have to ask LOL)
Take care of yourself!

So sorry that you've picked up things from the hosp!:(
HAHAHAH sleep I laugh at it..
I cannot make up the exam--this exam is a make-up in itself. The test is supposed to be on Monday or Tuesday...maybe i'm better or worse by then.
Right now, I just took a hot bath and have been moving quite a lot, so my nose is clear and I have no other symptoms. Maybe it'll stay like that? Who knows.
HAHAHA I know that you just had to ask! It's my Senior year and this semester is the one that counts! :S
UPDATE

Hey! Yeah...my cold didn't go away. Both my nasal passages are almost completely blocked, making me dependent on my mouth to breathe. My chest congestion has started but it's too hard now- what I mean is that it's not loose enough for it to produce phlegm , but I know it's there due to the ball in my throat and just one slightly productive cough. I just can't wait until all my symptoms shift to the chest...not that that's good, but I just can't deal nasal symptoms I get really angry. hahahaha
I've been getting at times a very slight bluish tint on my nails- not that I've not seen that before. I have Raynauds so I get it often when it's a specific temp outside/inside. But that wasn't Raynaud's. I've only gotten it ( when it's not Raynaud's) the last time I had pneumonia. I had a high fever and was really congested...so I guess a chilly body ( a bit of Raynaud's) with congestion ( slightly decreased O2) would cause that.
Anyway, I finish school this Tuesday! Let's see how i do a Calculus test with all this! HA I laugh at the sight of it.
You know you're wired when...
Airport security welcomes you.

and hospitals are the best places to pick up germs:(
since you say that when you get a cold it always turns out to be bronchitis or pneumonia...if I were you I'd get ahead of this possible dilemma and head straight to your family doctor, or a walk-in-clinic-, or an urgent care (I don't know what you have available in your area)...I say this to play on the side of caution as you don't want to be sick for the upcoming holidays.
i too went thru several surgeries (4 within 10 days back in November of 2004 - lead issues) and it took me months to get feeling back to my normal. I was profoundly exhausted - I'm thinking too much of the drug that puts one to sleep for surgery did me in.
you might even want to ask your doc to swab you for MRSA. nasty little hospital bug that they give you for free...lol.
again, if I were you, I'd be getting ahead of this possible holiday breaker.
Happy Holidays,
Pookie
