Hello my dad just got the Icd two days ago and has felt really crummy. Is that normal. He has had a lot of pain and is just not feeling good all around. And feels his heartbeat and it feels like it's pounding really fast.

The devices come from the factory with default settings that are picked to give safe pacing support with a new implant. Give it a week to heal a bit and then call for a programming appointment. It's a simple procedure where they put a small round puck over the pacer to make contact and adjust it to match the persons needs. Don't be put off by a clinic that wants him to wait 3 weeks or more.
I was back in less than a week to have mine tweeked and it made a large difference.

Feeling Bad
by SMITTY - 2012-11-12 12:11:49
Hello,
As Daisy said about her comments, I'm no dr. either. But my experiences after getting a PM were not anything like your dad is having. I got my first PM in 2000 and my second one in 2009. Both times my only problem was some soreness around the implant site that took about a week to go away. That and the restriction on arm movement were the only problems I had.
Based on what you tell us my guess is the settings on his ICD need to be adjusted. That is a simple procedure and I would suggest that he contact his dr ASAP. Also, unlike most surgeries this surgery normally does not leave the patient feeling bad and all washed out.
I just looked at your dad's bio and see he is only 4 years younger than me so I was older than him when I go my first PM.
I wish him the best,
Smitty

Sorry to hear he is feeling bad. Its normal to not feel on top when you've been through any type of surgery. I have cardiomyopathy and with it, you have cardiac awareness .. you feel your heart thumping sometimes. I'm not a dr. But. If his heart rates above normal. Id call the dr and see what's its supposed to be for his condition that caused him to get the pacer. Avoid stress.,caffeine, chocolate, smoking,! All these things causes the heart to beat fast. And pray!!
